Seek the help of a professional.
Why bother burning up good equipment on stupid advice!

Many specifics are needed , How many speakers, what type. impedence values of speakers and amps, details of the room and the equipment are required to give advice

It all depend on what you really want to do.
But for basic surround sound sound like all you really need is to purchase a DVD player and a surround sound receiver, make sure the receiver has DD or Dolby Digital logo on it.

blade is right, go to best buy get their consultation for 100 bucks, their installers will come to your house and make suggestions, then you get the 100 dollars back off your products when you buy them:)

Man, forget Best Buy and the other "Home Theatre" specialists. All they’ll do is charge you about 5 times for what you can esily do yourself. Especially since the speakewr wire is already pulled.

By a projector, a 5:1 Receiver, build a screen and you’re in business. You could probably do it for less than 2K. I did and it looks outstanding!

You can’t get a HT out of Best Buy for less than 10K almost.
