How to connect my home theatre system to my rogers cable box?

ok so i just got a new Home theatre system the Sony DAV-HDZ-485 and when i play dvds it works fine but when i try and connect it to my cable box to watch tv and listen in surround sound it dosent work for any of the speakers. does anybody know what cables i should use i use an hdmi cable to connect my tv to the receiver and component cables for the cable box should i use 2 hdmi cables? if anybody knows anything about these types of problems just reply maybe it will help me out and links would be appreciated

    One of the things you gave up with that $280 system is the ability to hook things INTO the system. It is basically a glorified DVD player with cheap attached speakers.

    Take it back. Buy a better system or save up to get one with a full-sized receiver.
