Hi,
Im 20 and about to start a marketing degree. I recently finished a fashion diploma and i was planning to do Fashion marketing but as its extremely competitive i felt that marketing alone would open more doors, just in case. I would really like to do fashion but i am trying to play it safe. I have recently started up a fashion blog and realised that i love writing about fashion and was wondering if becoming a fashion journalist was not so much about the degree but the experience?
I know it’s a cliche but in any creative field networking is 100x more important than the diploma. Ask yourself: what are the odds that any of my marketing instructors will be able to hook me up with a job at a fashion magazine when school is over?
Whatever you do, KEEP BLOGGING! Make that blog the best damn blog you can make. It’ll get your name out there, and the criticism you get from rude commenters will eventually mold you into a better writer. If you live in a fashion-conscious city you can do some investigative journalism too.
Good luck!
Probably one in journalism then a second major in fashion if your school has it.

A DEGREE in FASHION???? Good grief, it’s about time these "degrees" were confined to the dustbin where they belong ,along with marketing, media studies and all the other lightweight, no mark "qualifications" that you get by sending off three cornflake packet tops.
