Can you offer travel tips to an American couple traveling to Egypt?

Like best dining, dress code, customs, safety, best time to travel. My parents are thinking of going and would like to start planning their trip.

Don’t wear clothes above your knees or elbows! Stay away from teen age boys! Good luck!

What travel advice would you give to someone travelling in South America for a month in a months time?

We are going on holiday and trying to work out the best spots in July. Peru is definitely on the adgenda, but we are interested in other recommended destinations and general travel tips.

Go to Buenos Aires, Argentina. You can’t miss it. I visited the city with some friends last July and it was just amazing. In a month you’ll get to see/do so much! The food is absolutely incredible there (they are well-known for their steaks and parrilladas). The culture is so rich: of course, they have the tango. You can catch tango shows in the streets in downtown sometimes. They also have more excluvise tango shows in theatres. … Read the rest

How long before travel is the cheapest time to buy international airline tickets from Australia?

How long before travel is the cheapest time to buy international airline tickets from Australia. We are travelling late January 2008

This all depends on whether the airlines are having seat sales, and where you are travelling to. You would most likely need to purchase the tickets a couple of months in advance.
Start looking around for some prices now, that way you can get an idea on what the standard prices are, and you will know when a good deal comes out :)

Flight Centre usually has the most competitive airfares out of Australia. Check out their website: http://www.flightcentre.com.au/

Is it safe to travel infant of 8 weeks on long distance flight?

I am planning to travel with my baby from mumbai to london and my baby is of 8 weeks. Is it safe to travel on such long distance flight and what precautions i should take if it is ok to travel.

Yes, it is perfectly safe to travel with a baby that young, even for such a long distance.

Babies often do have difficulty with the pressure in their ears during take-off and again when the plane starts to make its descent to land. If you have the baby nursing or drinking from a bottle during that time, then the baby should be fine. Even sucking on a pacifier can … Read the rest

I can travel standby anywhere for free. How can I make money with this ability?

I do know someone who has the same ability who travels back and forth to Japan to teach English. I also have thought of import/export, though I don’t know much about it. Being an antiques scout/buyer was suggested to me. I doubt I could compete in the photoessay/travel writer category. Do you have any ideas? Thanks.
No, I’m not an airline employee, and no, I’m not suggesting trying to transfer my pass. Please read my description before replying.

You can’t. There was a time when a very minute number of passengers could standby–as a pre-approved courier–on a few select and rare international flights for very low prices, but since 9-11, … Read the rest

How a travel portal is created? What can be the cost of creating a travel portal?

A travel portal needs a website but how the airlines, hotels, cruises, buses, rails are linked. Is it GDS or linking of individual airlines websites, etc. I need more information on this

They are linked through affiliate links. You go to the websites and sign up to become an affiliate. Lets pretend you want to make links on your website to travelocity flights for airlines….so you go to travelocity.com and look at the bottom of the website. You will see the words "affiliate program" in small letters. Like this: http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w106/JordanPar23/travelocity.png
Click on that to sign up. Once you sign up, travelocity would give you links for whatever flights you need … Read the rest

What is travel cancellation and interruption insurance and why would I need it?

My family is planning a vacation for next summer and our travel agent suggested we get travel cancellation and interruption insurance- is it really necessary?

My decision on getting travel insurance is always predicated on how much I’ve spent for the trip and how much I’d be willing to lose. Travel insurance is generally not expensive compared to the cost of any given trip, but some people just don’t want to pay for it.

However, imagine your vacation being interrupted due to a cancelled flight… or maybe you lose your luggage and have to buy some things until they locate it, etc… Travel insurance can reimburse you.

How can I buy travel vouchers to give as a gift?

I would like to buy travel vouchers to give as a gift. They would be for travel originating in the UK – most likely to European destinations.
Ideally they could be redeamed online and could be spent on both air travel and hotels.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks.
I want to get the vouchers from a UK based company or website.

You can buy airline vouchers directly from the airline – most offer them on their website. Virgin Atlantic offers "Virgin Vouchers" in denominations of £5, £10, £20 and £50. They’re sent out in a stylish wallet along with a list of all the places where they can be used.… Read the rest

I want to start a travel Agency and want to know where the travel agent gets their holidays from?

Hi
Im wanting to start a membership Travel Agency on line. I would like to know where the Tour Operators get their warehouse holidays in order to make a profit. Is there a software or website that the travel agents use were they get the holidays at a flat rate, factory (warehouse) price.
Obviously the travel agent gets the holidays from somewhere and then put their own mark up on.

You will envitibly fail with no knowledge, ATOL or Abta bonded operation. Consider home working first. Look at Travel Counsellors or Hays Travel. Even then you would need some background knowledge. To set up a website with none of the … Read the rest

I’m considering traveling around S. America for around 6 months to a year and wondered how much it would roughly cost. I would be back packing and am not expecting to sleep anywhere fancy or travel in luxery but I would like to hit some major cities for nights out as well as traveling to more remote places. Also if anyone knows the anyway to pick up casual work there to earn whilst I’m traveling that would be much appreciated. I don’t speak much Spanish at the moment but fully intend on learning.

Ok. Transportation? Bus is the cheapest way.. Hostels abound.. but watch out for thieves and pickpockets. In … Read the rest

How do you get work at Travel Channel, National Geographic as a travel photographer? Or as anything?

I want to work for travel channel, it must be my job to travel the world. Im studying film directing and taking photography courses. How and where do you think i should get a job that will allow me to travel?
Thanks a mil…

Photographers for National Geographic are at the top of their field. Don’t expect to get an offer right out of photography school. Look for a job that pays the rent first. Having discouraged you, let me say that there is hope. I attended one of their seminars, which was an excellent orientation to the field. How to travel cheap around Europe via Train?

I’m planning to travel to Switzerland, Austria and Czech Rep this summer via train from UK. One of the cheapest options is to buy the Global Pass, which is only for European residents. However I’m not a European resident, which means that I need to find another cheap options to travel. Can anyone give any suggestions?

The global Interrail pass is for European residents. The global Eurail pass is for non-European residents.

So look at Eurail passes, but take into account that Czech Republic and the Eurostar are not part of the Eurail pass.

I personally would fly from the UK to Switzerland and from Prague to the UK. … Read the rest

How can Electromagnetic Radiation travel without a medium?

If Electromagnetic Radiation can travel through the vacuum of space then it can travel without a medium, but shouldn’t this be imposable? Or is it true that Electromagnetic Radiation uses the medium of existing magnetic fields, such as earths, distorting these fields much like sound waves do to air? And if so how can this have a direction of travel?

Electromagnetic waves travel through a vacuum and any other physical medium slows or stops their progression. They do not use existing magnetic fields as a medium, though they do interact with them.

An electromagnetic wave is nothing more than an a propagation of a changing electric and magnetic field. these … Read the rest

Is travel in Ecuador more dangerous for gringoes than other latin american countries?

I read some in a travel book and the warnings were so scary concerning assaults, weapons and kidnapping. I am now a little shy of travelling there and yet would like to go if it is safer than what I read. Anyone help?

I’ve been to Ecuador twice and traveled there extensively. If you travel smart and are aware of your surroundings, I don’t believe it is dangerous. Of course, you have to be aware, especially of pick pocketers (and in Quito many young street children are the worst) so just make sure you keep your money and valuables close to you.

I heard a few stories of people being … Read the rest

Can I travel to spain with a swiss resident permit C?

I am planning of going to Spain, and would like to know if I could travel to spain with my swiss resident permit and my other passport (as I can travel to france with my swiss resident permit)? And the guys traveling with me has a shengen visa, is that okay?

Thanks!

Yes, the Swiss type C residence permit waives the visa requirement to the other Schengen countries; same applies to a visa issued by Switzerland if it is a type C visa and it states valid for "Schengen States" in the first column.
