What health problems are needed in order to qualify for gastric bypass surgery?
What types of health problems are needed to qualify to have gastric bypass surgery? Do you only qualify if you have severe health problems caused by this or could you qualify if you have smaller health problems like knee arthritis & breathing problems? Most of my family is obese and have heart disease, sleep apnea. Would they take that into consideration? My sister had gastric bypass surgery with a starting weight at 208 and is down to 128. I don’t think she had any medical problems due to her obesity.
Usually you have to have a BMI (Body Mass Index) of 40 or more to qualify for gastric bypass. If … Read the rest

I get worried about my girlfriend because she doesn’t have health insurance. I am insured through my job, what are her options? Is there something she can sign up for? If she has health issues I want to know that she will be able to afford any necessary medical treatment. Thanks.

What makes something a mental health issue as opposed to a regular health issue that involves the brain?
For instance, epilepsy is not considered a "mental health" problem even though it’s something that’s happening in the brain. Schizophrenia has to do with brain chemicals, but it’s a mental health issue.
Most mental illnesses are considered ‘brain’ issues as they involve irregularities in the functioning of the brain. Hence, the medications and treatments. It has also been recognized that all these conditions also have accompanying behavioral and emotional components hence they are also mental health issues.
Epilepsy is not considered by itself a mental illness because it involves misfiring in the brain but by itself does not have a direct emotional or social behavioral effect. Having said that dealing … Read the rest

How can I improve my health without spending loads of money?
I already have pretty good health, for example I go to a gym regularly and buy my own health foods. But this does tend to be quite expensive at times. What can I do to save money but improve my health?
For optimal health, I advocate a low carb way of eating. As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn’t gain weight, no matter the calories, because insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone) isn’t activated.
I personally believe in using fat as fuel instead of carbohydrates. Fat is totally benign in the absence of insulin. There aren’t enough calories in vegetables & … Read the rest

What are the health risks of my use of smokeless tabacco every so often?
I dip about once every other day, if not once every 3 days. What are the health risk if I rotate where I put the lip in my mouth along with the amount I use it. Seeing that most frequent users dip 2-3 times a day, I feel that the health risks associated with them don’t complelely apply to my use.
you still risk the chance of getting oral cancer..

What are the health requirements to obtain a private pilot’s license?
I’m thinking of taking flying lessons and wondered what the health requirements are. I am color-blind. Would that affect my eligibility? What are any other health requirements?
You should be in good general health and free of any medical conditions which might cause you to become incapacitated in flight, such as epilepsy, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, hypertension (because of the increased risk of incapacitating heart problems or stroke), etc.
You can get a license if you are color-blind. If you can pass any one of about two dozen approved color vision tests, you can get an unrestricted license. Otherwise, you’ll generally get a license that doesn’t allow night flight or flight … Read the rest

How are you paying for health insurance if you are one of the millions recently laid off?
I know COBRA is available for many, but it is very expensive to keep up and runs only for a limited period. Questions like this have been asked before and those against governement supported health care just accused those who didn’t have health insurance as lazy losers. But with the economy crashing, the scenario has changed. If you aren’t employed anymore and have no income and little savings, what are you doing for health insurance?
TAT…I left my job and my COBRA payment was $1,200 a month for me and my family. When you are unemployed, that is a LOT of money and not "reasonable" as you describe it. Many … Read the rest
Health Insurance Rates Skyrocketing
Medical advancements are promising longer lives, but can we afford it? Health insurance has become so expensive that many people can no longer afford to purchase it. As costs continue to skyrocket, many of us wonder where it will all stop. At what point will we as a nation begin to do something about this problem?
The fact that health care costs are dizzyingly high should be enough, but the truth is that many of us really don’t understand how health insurance works. What is a deductible and when does it reset itself? We don’t know the differences between a PPO and an HMO, and many of us couldn’t tell … Read the rest

How will the department of health and human services carry out a new health care plan?
I have to write a bill for government and i need to explain how health and human services would carry out my bill after it would be passed. What steps would they take? My health care plan resembles obama’s plan if that helps.
Once the legislation is signed by the president, the approprriate department writes the regulations to implement the law.
For example, the LAW says we have to pay income taxes.
The IRS regulations say we have to file a form 1040.
First, proposed regs are written by the department staff.
They MUST follow the law.
They can not violate the law.
The proposed regs are published in the … Read the rest

Check your domestic health insurance (if any) and bank (if you have a "premium" type account); the might include travel insurance.
If not, try the people who you buy home/car/pet insurance from; they might offer you travel insurance at a reduced rate.
In the UK, the Post Office usually has the best deals on travel insurance, but I don’t know how common this practice is in the rest … Read the rest
How does Universal Health Care motivate individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles?
At a time in our country when two out of three adults are overweight, how does providing state-run health care encourage people to take better care of themselves? Look how unhealthy Americans are when health care is at a premium. Imagine our condition when it’s doled out like welfare.
Because the quality of care within the Universal system is so bad you certainly don’t want to have to use it. Therefore you will live longer by taking better care of yourself.
