High Fashion
Business
Race Car/Nascar
Evening Wear
Rock and Roll
It’s a fashion show so things can be big and outrageous too!

well from your details I’m not completely sure if you’re going to be in it as in walking as a model and rocking all these different looks, because if so then you won’t have time for make up changes.

anyway,

HF- thick liquid eyeliner and smokey eye
B- regular, natural looking makeup with heavy mascara and maybe they should wear some business-person like glasses?
RC/N- white eyeshadow and accent the eyes
EW-nothing special but natural looking makeup and maybe some heavy blush and brown eyeshadows
R&R- go all out with different radical eyeshadows and make it heavy and apparent. use eyeshadow to cover the ENTIRE eye lid and thick liquid eyeliner on top lid and extend beyond the eye.

try this:

Girls in their teens and in college are inundated with fashion from their friends and acquaintances. One can say they are immersed in fashion and have to be very fashion conscious to not appear out of touch and to decide what to wear every day.

Here is some advice to help those girls keep up to date with the latest fashion trends.

There are different styles that come out every year. Most designers release at least two collections per year, during fall and spring, while others release four collections – one for every new season. It is really tough being sharp on all those new things considering the different styles that are introduced with all those new collections. Besides, not all styles fit all people.

Even though you would love to wear a particular outfit that looked really good on the model on the runway, it might look pretty odd and out of place when you wear it. The first key to narrowing down your focus is to zoom in on those collections and styles that fit your particular height, weight, and personality type.

If you want to be on the safe side, select one of the classic styles. They rarely go out of fashion. However, girls don’t always like wearing classic clothes so, how can they always be in fashion? A simple way to make girls fashion work for you is to choose from a collection that suits you best. For example, if a particular color suits your skin tone best, you can wear a top of that color with jeans or black pants, which don’t have to be from the same collection.

Accessorizing is another clever way of keeping up with the latest girls fashion without even having to wear clothes from the latest trends. Work with your body’s strong and weak point, and select accessories that will enhance your best features. Nobody is perfect. You need to hide your flaws and enhance your godd features, just like those seemingly perfect models that grace the catwalks of the fashion world.

A belt, scarf, hair clips or shoes can make all the difference in looking like an out of touch cave dweller and a hip Fashion-conscious urban girl.

Make sure that you know what works for you and then find the fashion news sources that cover new collections and styles that suit you specifically. That way you can always be up to date with the latest girl fashion without suffering from information overload.

I can’t stand to see a woman wear a huge belt around her bulbous gut. Then you have some dark skin women with white make-up around their eyes. I don’t know that’s part of a fashion or not but it’s terrible looking. I hate seeing some women wearing that junk. What are some Fashion styles or statement, you find unattractive on the opposite sex?

I consider myself open-minded but those male purse things annoy me. I don’t mind if a transwoman wears a purse but any other man looks strange to me with one. Sorry.

Those low sagging pants infuriate me. It was one thing when only a few guys did it, and not so low, and not all the time, like Tupac. I could say, "ah…just a little thing". Seeing lots of men dress this way and having the pants near their ankles is disgusting, to me.

Men in those "skinny jeans" tended to look like chickens or something, to me. The rock band guys looked cool and some junior high boys. But most of the rest of the male population looked like they ought to be out on the farm picking up corn kernels and crowing in the morning.

Only a few skateboarders and hip hop emcees looked good with turned around caps. Most of the rest remind me of Bazooka Joe or some other cartoon character.

***I recognize that as I am not paying for the clothes of all these people that my opinion doesn’t really count.****

Because i have to research what fashion or costume designers will buy from a shop to make a dress or whatever. what materials would they need, like the different types of cloth, needles, threads. Please tell what more do they need?

In shop work we have two types of supplies, on hand non job specific and supplies purchased specifically for a particular job.

On hand non job specific supplies include pins, needles, threads, zippers in many colours and lengths, hooks and eyes, basic buttons, interfacings in all weights, china silk for linings, and cotton muslin for making test garments to fine tune design and fit. These are often purchased from warehouses or wholesalers in large lots. I buy rolls of interfacings and linings, never two yards here or three yards there…I always buy a whole roll. For thread I buy long staple polyester on 5000 meter cones, it cheaper to buy in large quantities. Pins come in one pound boxes, stainless steel longs, also known as "dorcas dressmaker pins". Dorcas refers to the length, I have no idea where the term came from. I also have a good supply of fashion fabrics on hand, from rolls of silks to odd lots of whatever catches my eye to leftovers from previous jobs.

Then I also have job specific purchases. For example right now I’m making a bunch of special shirts for a local eatery. For these pieces I needed to buy a few rolls of black cotton spandex, several rolls of lace, and stretch bindings. Another job might include special notions such as hook and eye tape, steel boning, special fabrics, dyes, it depends. I have a few fabric swatch books from suppliers of evening fabrics, dupionis and shantungs, crepe satins, that sort of thing. I can order direct for wholesale prices rather than go to the fabric store and buy Retail. For costly fabrics I will make the dress up in cotton muslin and perfect the fit and design and then take the cotton with me to the outlet so I buy no more than I need. For something like re-embroidered brocades that start at 150$ a meter, you don’t buy more than you need and you don’t waste an inch.

Most dress shops and costume shops operate that way, combining on hand basics with job specific purchases. We almost always we buy in large quantities as it’s cheaper that way. We almost always hang on to everything, like scraps, leftover buttons, we never know when it’s going to come in useful again. Costume shops will often hold onto costumes and recycle them into new costumes; the Shakespeare Festival shop in Stratford often uses and reuses costumes from previous seasons to make current season’s costumes. Here’s a little page describing the festival’s costume warehouse. http://www.frugalfun.com/costumewhouse.html also the next site is one used by costume shops, there might be something interesting there for you: http://www.costumes.org/

I guess it’s really not what you know, but who you know.

Go to fashion week and sneak into a runway show. It’s not hard to talk the people to let you in.
Lots of important Fashion industry people will be there.
Don’t be a pest but if given the chance introduce yourself to some people
Friends of mine have gotten internships from doing this

If you can’t sneak in hang out right outside the show

I’m only in 6th grade, but I have a knack for fashion. I’ve always wanted to be a fashion designer or model, and now’s the time to make my dream come true. Please tell everything you know.
If some people think my age is too young, go ahead and tell me, but this is my dream and has been for as long as I can remember.
I can’t get a degree since I am too young for one. So, please don’t answer with "Get a degree."
Everyone tells me I’m pretty enough to be a model and they tell me I should model.

You CAN start preparing to be a model right now. Anyone who tells you differently knows not what they are talkinga bout. Clueless at best. I am guessing that you must be around the age of 11. So you can start taking care of your skin, hair, your body. Practice posing in the mirror. Modeling isn’t all about being pretty. Some of the ugliest girls are very successful models and you know why because they know how to transform. How tall are you? How is your weight? Are you real, real thin? Are you atleast 5’7 for your age. Models are usually 5’8- 6 foot with some exceptions but agencies will take a girl your age who is 5’7 because she is still growing in some agencies opinions. What everyone tells you and what an agent might tell you are two totally different things my dear. If you are 5’2 right now, you might not be able to become a model. If you can get to the height of atleast 5’6 by the time you are 13 you will have a good chance, and with the right look. Whatever that is supposed to mean. Try learning all the different modeling agencies, the models and designers. What are the fashion capitals? Where do you live? Are you willing to Travel? You can go to models.com for information on agencies in your city. But if you aren’t in a big City you will eventually have to either live in a model house in that city and you do have to pay. I will warn you not to think you are going ot be a supermodel over night. You might not even become one at all. But you might become a supermodel at the same time. Its a real, real tough industry and it can either make you or break you. Seriously…Watch out for scams because there are a lot of scams out here waiting to prey on young girls like you so whatever you do you gotta take your parent with you. Also, remember if any agent tells you to pay or get naked RUN, RUN, RUN!!! As far as models.com, I do not recommend you joining the forums and speaking with any of the stage moms and other idoits. Don’t post any pics up there either. I have NEVER in my life posted a picture up there because I don’t need their approval as a source for me beginning my career like those other folks do. Trust, their UGLY daughters can say what they want about someone but when someone talks about their UGLY daughter it is a different story. So, I suggest you just go on there and search and not interact with those jobless sad people lol. This is for fashion modeling
You can actually start sending out to an agency once you hit 13 years old.

Okay… as for Fashion Design. You need to start drawing. Study the fashion magazines as well. Learn about Croquis, the fashion figure, whats in whats not. I recommend Fashion Sketchbook by Bina Abling and 9 Heads. There are a ton of fashioin books out here but those two ar eth eones that helped me. I have a couple of more fashion books as well but those two are the best. You can also learn to sew meanwhile. Try to find the different fashion schools F.I.T. Fashion Institute of Technology. Cheap. I take a course there now. I finished college in Business Management with a Bachelors Degree so now I am just focusing on my career. I used to go to Parsons School of Design but they are crazy expensive. If you can afford it. GO!! I love that school. Both are in New York City. You can also try FIDM in California. This is when you get older. For now, try to find different afterschool programs that are dedicated to drawing. You can also learn by yourself. A lot of designers were self taught and did not go to school. A lot of them did go to school. Its about how good you are and not where you learned and developed your skill. You are only in the 6th grade so if I were you I will just focus on learning how to draw fashion figures and clothing. I would also try a little bit of sewing but not right now. Study the magazines. You can prepare to go to a Fashion High School. I just know of Fashion Industries High School in New York City. Just focus on drawing for now and learning who the different designers are, where they went to school etc… Knowledge is power and its very impressive. Do the same thing for modeling as far as learning about the different agencies and the different models and how they got started. Some of them went from rags to riches. Some of these stories of Fashion Designers and Models are very inspirational. Its very funny how you see so many girls on America’s Next Top Model talking about they want to be a Model and they know NOTHING about the Fashion Modeling Industry. They don’t know any of the designers, barely any of the models. Its really sad how these girls have a distored view of the modeling industry.

Who knows, if you ever become a famous model you can just use your status to have your own clothing line. I mean, I honestly don’t believe its being a REAL fashion designer but at the same time you are still living out your dreams and you will be able to model your own clothing. Something I wanted to do way back when. Now I am just focusing on designing.

P.S. When and if you become a model watch out for all of the pressure. There is a lot of drugs and sex and all kinds of things in this industry and its a dog eat dog industry. It can eat you up and spit you out, keep on moving like you never existed. There is a lot of back stabbing. This is for Fashion Designing too. So I just wanted you to be aware so that if anyone pressures you to do anything you are smart enough not to. No matter what. No matter what anyone promises you.

Best Wishes and Good Luck!!

I owned a fashion boutique but I gave it to my sister because she wanted to open her own one too and I realised that I want to become a writer for fashion for Heat! Magazine. Since I already have an eye for Fashion since my business is running, I think I will have a chance. I’ve opened this boutique for over 4 years now, but I don’t have a degree. It’s all self taught.

easy… write something… and submit it… and althought you may not like this answer, getting into ANY periodical / glossy publishing house is a distant on the horizon dream…you will probably be a stringer or freelancer, staff positions dont happen overnight… and getting IN can take many years of hard work… the big glossies employ the cream… they pay, and they choose… and thier decisons are always based on a solid dependable proven track record… this is a high presure environment… i publish a small community newspaper.. a mere 30 pages once a month… ive never missed a deadline… can you say that?

because at 3am, when your art director is screaming down the phone and the deadline is 6 hours away… youd better not have writers block… and your copy has to be precise, concise and on time.

try it, base the article on your own experience, your own boutique… shoot a few frames, and write 2000 words… then rewrite it, to 1000 words… and again, to 500… which is roughly 1 page of A4…
and submit it to your local community newspaper… (treat it as advertising for the boutique) and see where it goes… you can also enrol at the local community colleges for writing workshops..

I appreciate that it’ll be too wide for older monitors but a lot of popular sites seem to be ignoring compliance. I’m not so much concerned with compliance as I am concerned with Fashion. What width is in fashion for contemporary web design right now? Is a 1000 pixel fixed width alright for website?

I reckon building a website with 950 or 960 px page width. This way it shows up well with a 1024 px width screen. I appreciate many desktops and macs come with wider screens, but you also need to factor in the fact that net books and smart phones now have smaller screens. Fashion is about design, not width and you could easily add a theme or background in the margins of the main site that can make the site look very cool.

I’m almost 17, and I’m Home schooled, so i take fashion design at a local community college. I already have professional sewing skills, and i can use professional sewing equipment, like sergers, ect.. and i was wondering if this a plus since i have started so much earlier then the average wanna be fashion designer?

Also, what does it take to be a fashion designer? The clothes I make are inspired by the 60′s pop art , the 80′s, and some vintage styles. I like to make clothes that are really fashionable but wearable too, and i have made some handbags. Is that good enough or should i be more creative?

And where can I buy wholesale fabric and other sewing notions like zippers, buttons, thread, ect.

Any other info would be wonderful!

i don’t know– it might be tricky but you can still do it! Follow your dreams
