In a country where the advancement in technology governs the work-force, the demand for certain jobs seem to vary on a year-to-year basis.  For that reason, it becomes increasingly necessary for up and coming entrepreneurs do their research before jumping into a field.  With an economy on the rocks, the demand for certain professions has gone down.  While it is possible that some may make their appearance again on the radar, it is also possible that they have met their last days.  So the real question becomes; what are the jobs of the future?

 

1.) Physician Assistant- These individuals are required to have a BA in the medical field and 2 years training in a physician-assisting program and can make up to $64K.  Their tasks include taking medical histories, writing prescriptions, giving patient exams and ordering lab tests.

 

2.) Physical and Occupational Therapist- Physical therapy requires a BA in the medical field plus accredited physical therapy education program and can earn up to $60K.  Their tasks include helping people with injuries or diseases with physical treatment and exercise.  Occupational therapists earn about $54K and their tasks include helping people with mental or physical handicaps learn daily tasks such as bathing, dressing, using computers and problem solving.

 

3.) Medical Science Liaison (Pharmaceutical)- This field requires an MD, PhD in    Science or a Pharmacy Degree (PharmD) and they can well over $100K.  Unlike regular pharmacists, their knowledge on products and medication is extensive and therefore are not considered part of the sales team. Rather, they use their knowledge to help customers and future clientele with any questions or concerns they may have.

 

4.) Account Director (Internet and Sales Marketing)- Account director requires over 5 years experience in online marketing or advertising or an extensive background in print, radio, television or dot.com advertising.  They can make up to $150K in major cities.  Their tasks include managing sales and bringing in more business through improvements in marketing and advertisement.

Information Technicians (SQL Database Administrators) and Software Developers- These jobs require a BA in the field and can pay over $100K.  Tasks include designing and structuring databases, analyzing and testing software and developing new and better ways to recover and maintain computer data.  Software developers who specialize in Java or Microsoft are in higher demand.

 

6.) Accountant (Staff Accountant and Financial Analyst.)- Requires a BA in the field and can pay up to 70K in major cities (such as New York.)  Tasks included handling company’s general ledger account, budget development and financial statement preparation.

 

7.) Hospitality (General Manager at premier resorts and hotels)- Requires a BA or Masters in business or hotel management and can pay $150-$250K depending on the hotel or resort! Usually individuals will start as sales managers, move up to director of sales and marketing and after about 12 to 18 years they move up to general manager.  Their tasks include managing all aspects of the hotel or resort business from customers to employees.  They become the mediators between the business and the rest of the world.

 

8.) Construction Estimators and Project Managers- Construction estimators require a two-year degree from a construction technology school or a BA in construction management and usually pay $55K to start and $75K after 5 years.  Their duties include determining project costs (materials, workers, time, etc.) Usually construction estimators can move up to become project managers over time and these individuals can make $55K to start and can move up to over $100K after five years! Their tasks include managing all aspects of a construction project, overseeing work on site and off site.

 

9.) Apparel Designer (athletic or active wear)- Requires an undergraduate degree in design and textiles or Fashion design and can make about $40K in their first year! After 5 years they can make up to $90K.  Tasks include designing new styles for athletic or active wear that are in high demand for the season.

 

10.) College Instructor- Requires a Masters or PhD in the subject of choice and can pay $50K entry level.  Duties include teaching material to students, grading papers, meeting standardized requirements for school district.
